Duitser Hans Hermann, een concurrent van Jacky Ickx, overlijdt op 97-jarige leeftijd

Hermann won in 1970 voor Porsche de 24 Uur van Le Mans. Eerder was hij ook de beste in de 12 Uur van Sebring en de 24 Uur van Daytona. De Duitser was de eerste die alle drie de legendarische endurancewedstrijden op zijn naam kon schrijven.


Hermann was ook vaak een tegenstander van onze landgenoot Jacky Ickx. Die snoepte hem in 1969 in een Ford GT40 nog de zege af in Le Mans. Het was voor Ickx de eerste van zes overwinningen in Le Mans en de meest memorabele. De Brusselaar was immers als laatste gestart, omdat hij weigerde over de baan te rennen naar zijn wagen en zonder veiligheidsgordel te starten. Na een straffe inhaalrace passeerde hij in de laatste minuten Hermann.
